Zakat Stories

Zakat stories

Here are some real stories of Muslims who we have been able to help through our Hardship Fund, established in response to COVID-19.  We have amended some identifiers (name, locations, ethnicity, and/or gender) to protect the privacy of those we work with.

Sameer* lost his job in January this year, and is here on a working visa with no other family. He lives in shared accommodation.
His flatmates had been supporting him financially and emotionally, but were also struggling themselves, especially as the lock-down was implemented. When we heard Sameer’s story, we reached out to him to offer our assistance.
By the time we got involved, Sameer had no income, very little in the way of savings, and could not find any form of work during lockdown to pay his rent or even afford groceries. As a son with family elsewhere, who he had been able to financially support, Sameer was losing hope. We took Sameer through our assessment process, and though it takes time, we were able to support him with a month's rent, and groceries for the month of Ramadan.
